Lilac Breasted Roller Part 3

Hey there everyone, how has your creative week been and what did you get up to at the weekend? I had a wonderful weekend with friends and although the weather was unbelievably hot, I had lots of fun and was able to let my hair down…something I think we all need to do from time to time.

This week is going to be the last week of this demo as the next couple of Tuesdays will be taken up with either my annual Summer School or getting ready for 30 Days hath September. Just in case you haven’t heard about 30 Days, you can read more about it HERE and the list of prompts for the month is below:

And so on to our beautiful Lilac Breasted Roller. I’ve had fun with this project and getting to know my pastels again, I had forgotten what a beautiful medium it is and how versatile it can be.

Ali completes her pastel painting of the Lilac Breasted Roller and demonstrates how you might consider using pastel pencils.

As you will have seen in the broadcast, I use more than one brand of pencil, not because some are better or worse than others, but just like the pastel sticks that we talked about last week, because either the colour or the softness/hardness of them is required for that particular mark.

To re-cap, the main brands I use are CarbOthello, Derwent, Faber Castell and Caran d’Ache but if I could only choose one I think that CarbOthello is probably my favourite particularly their colour range which seems to suit the subject matter that I enjoy working with.

Next time I see you for TT I will be doing a very special broadcast for my Thirty Days project so I do hope you can join me, see you on the 6th of September lovely people, Ali
